Downtown Split Airport: Seaplane Port Ready for Business!

Total Croatia News

The key hub of downtown Split is ready for operation for European Coastal Airlines. A view from the air.

As we recently reported, after a long 14-year battle, seaplane operator European Coastal Airlines finally passed the final bureaucratic hurdles to the opening of their latest, and arguably most important, sea port on August 4, 2015, with the port in the Split harbour granted permission to operate.

ECA posted the picture above on their Facebook page earlier today, which gives people an idea how the sea port will look. It comprises of three containers and outdoor decking – cafe, sales office and toilets.

Direct flights to destinations such as Jelsa on Hvar, the island of Lastovo (also a new addition) and Pula could start as soon as next week, and the airline is awaiting final clearance of the latest Twin Otter in its fleet, which has already arrived in Croatia from California.

There has been some confusion on social media about what the new location will mean for flights to Resnik by Split Aiport, and TCN understands from ECA that both locations will be important centres of operations. A shuttle bus will operate between the two.
