Varaždin - Main Square

Varaždin's main square is dominated by the building of the Town Hall. Once known as "The Stone Building" it was a gift to the town by count Juraj von Brandenburg. The building was built in 1523 and has continously served as a town hall ever since. making it one of the oldest in Europe.
Varaždin's town council still have their meetings here and if you are lucky enough (or know the right time) you may even catch the ceremony of the change of the guards. When I was here on one sunny Sunday morning there were no guards but that did not prevent hundreds of locals to enjoy their morning coffee unguarded.
