Rijeka - Marton Museum

by Natasa Lujic
(Dubrovnik)

The Marton Museum is a private museum founded by its owner Mr. Veljko Marton. The founding of the museum grew out of an almost accidental decision to exhibit part of the Marton Collection in the Zagreb Museum of Arts and Crafts. On show were over 700 pieces from the collection.

The exhibition, opened on September 17th, 2002, was an instant success and public demand saw the exhibition extended well into November of that year. Yet these 700 pieces were only part of the entire Marton Collection, and the idea to open a museum grew out of this first exhibition. Since the public had eagerly come to view part of the collection, it was only natural to show them the rest are exhibited occasionally at the thematic and monographic exhibitions.
