Plaza, or Stradun, is the main street of Dubrovnik. It has gotten its name by the Italian word "stradone," which means "vast street." Stradun connects eastern and western part of the Town, passing between two bell-towers and among the franciscan churches. After the big earthquake in 1667, the Roman engineer Giulio Cerrutio relandscaped the street in a simple classical-baroque style.
The fasades on the northern part are two-staged, those on the southern side to the "Wide Street" are also two-staged with large windows on the first floor, and smaller ones on the upper ones. From the Wide Street to the central square "Luža" there are three-staged fasades with smaller windows on the bottom and third floors, and the larger ones on the middle floor.
