Money!

Used to travelling with just a Mars Bar, a pair of shorts and a credit card? You might struggle on Hvar. The shorts are great (except when visiting the beautiful churches - ladies remember to pack a wrap/sarong), the Mars Bar will melt and that Credit card will not be popular...
Unlike the UK where retailers pay only a small percentage to the credit card companies, the percentage charged in Croatia can be steep - one restaurant told us they would be charged 6% - so they really don't like to take them. Can't blame them really. So take cash, or make sure you can use the cash machines. Your credit card will be fine for some purchases and hotels but don't expect all shops, cafes and restaurants to take them.
And check the exchange rates. We have found that the local banks on Hvar usually offer a better rate for your £s than the airport or UK exchanges.
