Authentic Dalmatian at Konoba Marko in Jelsa

Konoba Marko in Jelsa is the answer if you are looking for some great Dalmatian cuisine at less than tourist prices away from the crowds, but with waterfront location? Or perhaps a hearty goulash on a cold December day when most of the tourist restaurants are shut for the winter. Look no further than Marko's!

With some of the best fresh fish and squid around, a hearty mixed grill or a selection of delicious pasta dishes, you will leave Marko's a happier person.

It is located on the corner of the harbour on the other side of Jelsa, away from the main tourist drag, but a great location for sitting outside, and a welcoming authentic stone interior for those harsh winter evenings.

Marko does a special workers' menu during the winter, and you can get an excellent three course feed for less than the price of a main at some other establishments.

And if you catch the timing right and sufficient white wine has been imbibed, out comes the guitar for an impromptu concert, where the local klapa has to compete with the musical folklore of Marko's roots in Virovitica, in northern Croatia.

If you can, order the fresh tuna in advance.
