Croatia's gastronomic secret - Me and Mrs Jones

If you are looking for a different culinary experience in Croatia, get yourself over to Jelsa on Hvar and check out Me and Mrs Jones, which is now in its second season. It is not just the name that is different - where else was packed for Valentine's Day with a meat fondue special? Or serving up Mexican, or frogs, on other themed nights?

Croatian food is excellent, but many tourists who stay longer comment that the menus have a very similar feel to them, prompting one long term resident to quip that there is a factory that produces a generic menu and each restaurant merely stamps their name on it).

Nothing could be so refreshing as a change as a visit to the Jelsa riva to dine at Josipa and Jurica's outstanding waterfont restaurant. The view may be stunning, but it is eclipsed by the service and attention to detail, and that is before the food comes us.

There is a rich selection of fish, outstanding steaks, and a great selection for the vegetarian, including an excellent fresh salad bar.

The wine selection is also excellent and Jurica can guide you through the various local wines on offer.
